Red ribbon created
The Visual AIDS Artists Caucus launches the Red Ribbon Project to create a symbol of compassion and support for people living with HIV and their carers. The red ribbon will go on to become an international symbol of AIDS awareness. The colour red is chosen for its connection to blood and the idea of passion — both anger and love. Cheap and easy for anyone to reproduce, it has been used by millions of people around the world.
