Progress towards 2020 Fast-Track targets

As the decade draws to a close, UNAIDS publishes a report calling for greater urgency as, overall, global gains slow and countries show mixed results towards meeting the 2020 Fast-Track approach deadline.

Communities at the centre finds that while some countries are making significant gains towards the 90-90-90 targets for testing, treatment and viral suppression, others are seeing HIV infections and AIDS-related deaths rise. The report also finds that despite key populations and their sexual partners accounting for more than half (54%) of new HIV infections globally, key populations are still being left behind in the response to HIV.

To bridge the gap, the report calls for greater and more strategic investment in the response, by evaluating what is making some countries so successful and creating roadmaps for the populations and locations being left behind.

"Ending AIDS is possible if we focus on people, not diseases, create road maps for the people and locations being left behind, and take a human rights-based approach to reach people most affected by HIV.” Gunilla Carlsson, UNAIDS Executive Director, a.i.
