DREAMS initiative

The United States President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) DREAMS initiative is established to reduce HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women in 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

DREAMS, which stands for Determined, Resilient, Empowered, AIDS-free, Mentored and Safe, works together with partner governments to deliver a combination of biomedical, behavioural and structural interventions to reduce HIV infections.

Through targeted interventions aimed at young women, their families, community and male sexual partners, DREAMS aims to address the structural inequalities that increase girls’ and young women’s vulnerability to HIV, and improve their lives more broadly.
