Elizabeth Glaser, an unlikely activist
Elizabeth Glaser becomes an unlikely face of AIDS in the USA in 1992 – a well-to-do, white, heterosexual woman. Infected from a blood transfusion during childbirth, she unknowingly passed HIV on to her children. In her speech to the US Democratic National Convention, she condemns the inaction of past US governments. After her youngest child Ariel dies, Elizabeth co-founds the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. She loses her battle with AIDS in 1994.
