USA jails HIV+ Dutch man
On 2 April 1989, Hans Verhoef, a Dutch man living with HIV, is jailed in Minnesota under the federal law banning travellers with HIV from entering the USA. In June, a protest against the law takes place at the opening ceremony of the Fifth International Conference on AIDS in Montreal, when 250 protesters with placards storm the stage.
