San Francisco epidemic

Throughout the 1970s, San Francisco becomes well known as a liberal and accepting city, with the Castro neighbourhood often dubbed the gay capital of the world. However, from the late 1970s, the community is devastated by the onset of AIDS, which quickly becomes epidemic. At one sexual health clinic in the city, HIV prevalence increases from just 1%, in 1978, to 65% in 1984.
