AVERT's first publication

AVERT kicks off a long history of HIV and AIDS information provision with the publication of a booklet entitled ‘AIDS and Young People’. The booklet is informed by research conducted in secondary schools in the UK, which allowed young people to ask personal questions about HIV and AIDS, and sex more generally, that they weren’t taught at school. Between 1989 and 2000, a total of 1.6 million copies are distributed around the world. The booklet is described as "excellent" by the World Health Organization, which sends a copy to the government of every country as an example of good practice in educating young people about HIV and AIDS.
