Buyers clubs

Before the approval of the first HIV drug AZT, treatment options are scarce. People affected by AIDS take it upon themselves to research alternative medicines and therapeutics, in light of perceived inaction on the part of the government and the USA Food and Drugs Administration (FDA). The People with AIDS Coalition (PWAC) in New York sets up a not-for-profit 'buyers club', providing easy access to key treatments. Buyers Clubs are later popularised in the 2013 blockbuster movie, the Dallas Buyers Club.
