DATA: HIV in the Ukraine
Like many countries in Eastern Europe and Central Asia, the HIV epidemic is largely driven by injecting drug use. But an active civil society in the Ukraine has had major success in turning around the epidemic among people who inject drugs, tripling access to harm reduction services and reducing HIV prevalence among this group from 41.8% in 2008, to 19.7% in 2014. The largest proportion of new HIV infections now come from sexual transmission.
