Botswana PMTCT success
Political support and good policy decisions contribute to Botswana’s success in reducing mother-to-child transmission. These include testing of all pregnant women for HIV, providing HIV test results in 20 minutes to expectant mothers and giving treatment to all those found to be HIV-positive. This is the first time that a low-income country with a high prevalence of HIV has cut transmission rates to levels approaching those in rich nations.
