USA implements travel ban

The 1992 International AIDS Conference, scheduled to be held in Boston, USA, is moved to Amsterdam in protest at US travel and immigration rules on people living with HIV. The US first institutes a travel ban on people living with HIV, preventing them from obtaining tourist visas or permanent residence status without a special waiver, in 1987, reinforcing the stigma associated with HIV. It is finally revoked in 2010.
