Treatment Action Campaign formed

Treatment Action Campaign is established in South Africa to challenge the view that HIV is a death sentence and raise public awareness and understanding of HIV treatments. It holds government accountable for health service delivery, campaigns against official AIDS denialism, challenges pharmaceutical companies to make treatment more affordable and cultivates community leadership on HIV. It is one of the most important civil society organisations working on AIDS in the developing world and is nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2004.
