Transgender rights in Pakistan

Pakistan’s Supreme Court recognises the civil rights of transgender people by including them in population registration under the status of a third gender. This gives hope for protection of fundamental rights and citizen entitlements including improvement in access to voting rights, employment and health care (including HIV services). The challenges of implementation remain difficult - particularly as same-sex sexual relations are still prohibited in Pakistan.
