PROUD study
Results from the UK’s PROUD study are published, showing that a daily pill can protect people from HIV infection. PROUD is the first study into the use of pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as a way to prevent HIV in the UK. The results show that PrEP reduces the risk of HIV infection by 86% in gay and other men who have sex with men and suggest that the approach could play a major role in reducing the number of new infections.
