Harm reduction works
Between 2008 and 2015, HIV prevalence among people who inject drugs in Ukraine more than halves, from 41.8% to 19.7%, as access to harm reduction services, such as providing clean needles and syringes, increases. In the Philippines, where harm reduction services are very limited, over the same period national HIV prevalence among people who inject drugs soars from 1% to 41.6%. In many places around the world, anti-drug policies and laws continue to hamper known and effective ways to prevent HIV transmission among people who inject drugs.
