Gates Foundation
Set up with a US $39.6 billion endowment, The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation becomes the world’s largest private philanthropic foundation. Focusing on health and HIV, it becomes a significant factor in the HIV response, alongside other private foundations such as the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS foundation. By 2016, the foundation has committed more than US $3 billion to HIV projects around the world and more than US $1.6 billion to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria.
