FDA Treatment Access Act
As AIDS spreads across the gay community in the USA, the community becomes increasingly angered by the drug approval process of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) - particularly when prognosis after diagnosis is so poor. In response, the FDA puts in place regulations whereby promising investigatory drugs could be made available to people with no other treatment options. AZT was the first drug to be pre-approved under this approach.
