Ending mother-to-child transmission

The ‘Global plan towards the elimination of new HIV infections among children’ launches with a focus on the countries most affected by the epidemic. It aims for a 90% cut in new HIV infections by 2015 (from 2009 figures) by increasing access to treatment for pregnant women and their babies. By 2015, there is a 60% decrease across all Global Plan priority countries. While significantly below the target, some countries do get close - including Uganda (86%) and South Africa and Burundi (both 84%).
