Caribbean epidemic

PANCAP is set up amid growing concern by Caribbean governments, UNAIDS and the World Bank of HIV’s spread in the region. It now has an HIV prevalence of 2.3%, fuelled by tourism, the sex industry and a culture of intergenerational sex and intense homophobia, which makes it hard to reach men who have sex with men with information and services. Although Caribbean populations are small, proportionally the region is now the hardest hit outside of sub-Saharan Africa. PANCAP becomes a major player in the regional response.
