Brazil guarantees free treatment

A 1996 federal law ensures all people living with HIV who need antiretroviral treatment receive it free of charge through the Brazilian National Health Service. The law continues Brazil’s rights-based approach to the epidemic and demonstrates the capability of a developing country to treat people with equity, independently of race, gender or economic power or wealth.
