Atlanta conference
Led by scientists from the USA and Europe, 2,000 people come together to discuss the emerging HIV epidemic. The conference is organised by the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Department of Health and Human Services and major research institutes. This first global conference is highly scientific, presenting knowledge about clinical progression, modes of transmission, epidemiological trends and the new test for HIV – and focuses less on the broader social issues relating to HIV, as subsequent conferences will.
