12th International AIDS conference
The theme of the 12th AIDS conference is Bridging the Gap. This tries to recognise the many gaps that exist in the HIV response: in treatment between rich and poor (people and countries), men and women and governments and civil society. Reports of increasing strains of multi-drug resistant HIV add to a somber mood - very different from the euphoria over new treatment advances at the previous conference in Vancouver.
