100% Condom Use

Thailand’s “100% Condom Use Campaign” impresses scientists, activists and educators worldwide. At the time, 97% of Thailand’s HIV infections come from encounters with sex workers, so the campaign encourages 100% condom use in every commercial sex encounter, supplying millions of free condoms. Within five years, condom use increases from 15% to more than 90% of commercial sex encounters. Using the slogan “No condom-no sex”, in its early years this becomes one of the most effective government-instituted HIV control programmes in history.
