Freddie Mercury dies from AIDS-related illnesses aged 45, just a day after announcing publicly that he is HIV-positive. More than 72,000 people attend the rock legend’s tribute concert. The concert is broadcast in 70 countries and raises more than £20 million for HIV charities.
