Nucleic acid testing

Nucleic Acid Tests are able to detect HIV (and hepatitis C) in blood plasma earlier after infection, shortening the ‘window period’ between a patient being infected and the detection of their infection. Being able to detect new HIV infections earlier not only helps people going for a test, but may prevent further transmission of HIV from people who are newly infected.
