Viral load test

Viral load tests provide a new way to monitor the progression of HIV in an individual, rather than relying on CD4 count or waiting for progression to symptoms. Viral load tests show that HIV is not a dormant infection, but gradually progressive unless treated. The new tests make it easier to evaluate the impact of each new drug and provide more individual care. Between 1995 and 1998 the tests become 250 times more sensitive.
