Treatment in Brazil

In Brazil, the number of antiretroviral drugs available free of charge from the Ministry of Health has increased significantly by 1999, to a total of 15. The number of AIDS-related deaths has also gone down to 14,000, from a peak of 20,000 in 1996 (when Brazil passed a law guaranteeing the right to free, universal access to HIV treatment), with improved quality of life for people living with HIV.
