South African generics

Pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline grants a ‘voluntary license’ to the major South African generics producer, Aspen, to produce their drugs AZT, 3TC and the combination, Combivir, at no extra charge. This is a marked change in direction for the company, which was part of a coalition of ‘Big Pharma’ attempting to sue the South African government for its policy on generics only six months earlier.
