Pharma deal

In July, UNAIDS, the World Health Organization, UNICEF, the United Nations Population Fund and the World Bank announce a joint initiative with five major pharmaceutical manufacturers to negotiate lower prices for HIV treatment drugs in developing countries. At around $15,000 per person per year in the US, prices of combination treatment are far out of reach for all but the wealthiest nations’ health services. The new deal is expected to drive down the cost of treatment by 80%.
