Mother-to-child transmission

Clinicians in the USA are advised that there is a risk of transmission of HTLV-III/LAV (later known as HIV) between mother and child, and that women at risk of the virus should be counselled and advised to delay pregnancy until more is known about the transmission link. Expectant mothers should also be counselled and are advised not to breastfeed, but rather to opt for formula feeding.
