HIV and the military

The Australian Army says its action is justified because of the inherent risk of bloodshed and infection during military duty. Even today, only a very few countries – such as South Africa and Israel – have policies allowing HIV-positive people to serve in the armed forces. In most countries, discriminatory policies - unspoken or unwritten - only serve to stigmatise HIV further.
